Today MERLOT grape if grown in many wine regions worldwide. On the other hand its roots are in France and it is one of the main Bordeaux wine grapes. It is a main grape planted in a right bank of Bordeaux today. Despite grape’s home being France with major worldwide production of Merlot, it is widely grown in other European countries such as Italy (Norther Italy used Merlot mainly to mix with other grapes, while “Super Tuscan” makes amazing, strong wines direct from Merlot), Spain, Romania and Bulgaria.
MERLOT is a big grape with thin skin. It ripens faster and may be grown in cooler climate than Cabernet Sauvignon. Common flavours for Merlon is ripe plums, blueberries, blackberries as well as leafy, vegetable notes.
