PINOT GRIS (Pinot Grigio in Italian) is widely known and getting more and more fashionable vine variety. It is grown in France, Italy, Germany and Hungary in Europe. Pinot Gris grape is a mutation from well-known Pinot Noir. Pinot Gris grape itself is greyish blue and brownish pink in colour.

There are three common styles of PINOT GRIS wine:

  • Mineral & Dry PINOT GRIGIO (Italian name for PINOT GRIS) – most planted area is in northern part of Italy, mainly Friuli (some of most admired Pinot Grigio are made in Collo) although some parts of Lombardy are also growing a lot of Pinot Grigio. Wine distinct itself with low citrus note aroma and noticeable acidity. In many cases these grapes in Italy are harvested not fully ripe in order to save acidity and not to gain too much flavor of aromatic grapes.
  • Fruity & Dry PINOT GRIS is main style of wine in warmer climate countries, such as USA or Australia. It is distinctive fruity, with ripe fruits aromas such as melon or peach.
  • Fruity & Sweet PINOT GRIS is famous Alsace, France, style, with peach, honey and lemon flavors. Pinot Gris here is less planted that other noble grapes of the region (Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Muscat) but due to cool climate and warm volcanic soil, wine is very unique, extremely powerful in flavors.
